Recently, Ian had the opportunity to take part in a volunteer day at Rodbaston Animal Zone, organised by Chee Cheung from Equans. The event brought together a group of volunteers from across Equans, all keen to contribute their time and effort to support the facility.

The day involved a hands-on task that was certainly not for the faint-hearted. As a team, we worked together to dismantle an old building on-site, helping to clear space for future developments and improvements. It was a physically demanding but rewarding project, and it was great to see everyone pulling together with a shared purpose.

One of the best aspects of the day was the teamwork. Volunteers from different parts of the business had the chance to work side by side, get to know one another, and make a tangible difference to a local community organisation. The sense of achievement at the end of the day was clear for all to see.

As a thank you for our efforts, the Rodbaston Animal Zone team treated us to a guided tour of the facility. This gave us the opportunity to learn more about the incredible range of animals cared for there and the important educational work the centre carries out.

The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the chance to feed the lemurs. Getting so close to these fascinating animals was a unique experience and one that none of us will forget in a hurry. It was a fantastic way to round off an enjoyable and worthwhile day.

A huge thank you to Chee Cheung for organising the event, to everyone from Equans who volunteered, and to the team at Rodbaston Animal Zone for making us feel so welcome. It was a great example of how volunteering can bring people together, support local organisations, and create memorable experiences along the way.
